Neuropeptide Memories

Often by the time you are six years old you will have fragmented or dissociated, "lost a piece(s) of yourself” from some frightening or abusive situation. Perhaps frozen in time. Over your life you may continue to fragment. Perpetuating the same beliefs about yourself, attracting the same relationships, and the same situations. Each time giving your power away.

It has long been an observation of body oriented therapists that the body holds memory, and unsolved situations and emotions can be stored away in the body and brain for years. Because this misplaced energy isn't in accord with the human body it can bring on illness.

According to Dr. Candace Pert, author of “Molecules of Emotion”, repressed emotions are stored in the body by means of neuropeptides, and memories are stored in neuropeptide receptors in the brain. Studies show biologically that the signals of the heart are transmitted to the brain via the blood stream (through “coded information” cells called neuropeptides) while the brain’s signals are transmitted to the entire body (including the heart) in terms of the vibration it produces (for example a fearful thought creates a vibration of fear which is felt in the body and accessed by the heart). So the heart feeds the brain, which in turn feeds the heart and thus creates a cycle of amplification of any signal that got started.

If emotions and memories are ignored or repressed the brain can enter into a specific “cycle” which keeps replaying the same fear based pattern(s). Your childhood is when these specific cycles get started – if you were brought up in unhappy surroundings the cycle that gets created is one of unhappiness where the heart feeds signals of unhappiness to the brain which in turn creates images of unhappiness (which create a vibration of resistance) and feeds this vibration back to the heart, creating a cycle. On the other hand if you were brought up in happy surroundings the cycle that gets created is one that reinforces the happy state of being. The cycle that gets activated in you during your childhood is not in your in control because you hardly have the awareness to make a conscious change as a child. But as an adult, who is conscious of his/her choice of aligning with positivity, one can consciously change their “default” cycle into the type of cycle they want – which is a cycle of happiness.

Either scenario the “Law of Attraction” is working. What and where you put  your focus  activates a force of attraction or amplification creating strong signals to the heart which responds by incrementing the number of neuropeptides it sends out. This is how a cycle of emotion gets created. When we are in denial and put off mending the fragmented self the patterns embed deeper.

So, what do you do to release those limiting negative repeating cycles? First, hold loving kindness to yourself, you are who you are because of all that you have experienced, and all you have not. Second, through recognition, reconciliation and forgiveness of self and others you begin to establish a fertile ground for healing.

Next, you will have to work on surrendering your personal will, your need to control, this requires radical trust that your Higher Self will guide and protect you. This surrender will instigate feelings of insecurity, uncertainty, anxiety, anger, restlessness, confusion, nervousness, guilt and a sense of “death” (of identity) in you.

When doing this kind of healing find someone you trust to assist you in healing yourself, for only you can heal yourself, chose a seasoned person to help you facilitate the process. For many working with a counselor, or a life coach, one you feel safe with who will listen to your story, and guide you. For others, body work, such as Lomi Lomi, Myofascial Release, or Trigger Point Release, help to free the body from muscle memories of the past.

At the very lease, catch yourself in a negative, fearful thoughts and smile, even if you don’t mean it, watch a funny movie, listen to music that is up-beat, walk, read a good book,  always sit for at least 20 minutes a day with you attention on you heart beat and your breath.

It takes courage and perseverance to awaken to who you truly are, please know you are not alone. On a grander scale people all over the World are releasing old patterns that no longer serve the Collective.
